Tonight I performed at the Blue and Gold banquet for Cub Scout Pack 350 in Fort Worth, Texas–my first show at a Blue and Gold! And because of my Scouting experience, I was able to tell this particular audience that I’m an Eagle Scout who was once a Cub Scout, too. I even brought along my old Cub Scout manuals and uniform shirt to show everyone (although the shirt would’ve been a little snug to wear, I’m afraid).

Throughout the night, I met a bunch of great Cub Scouts, Webelos, and Scouters. I saw many of them receive awards and badges and I was even lucky enough to be there when Super Scout arrived! I hear that’s a rare honor, indeed.

Thanks for the fun evening, Pack 350! Remember… keep hiking up that trail to Eagle. It’s a fun trek with plenty of exciting things to see and do. And if you live by the Cub Scout motto, “Do Your Best,” you’ll reach the top in no time!

Today I enjoyed a fun author visit with the Shining Stars of Starwood Montessori School! First, I enjoyed a fun tour of the school. Next, I met many of Starwood’s finest during my presentation. And finally, I finished out my visit with a special pizza party with Ms. Finnegan’s class.

It was fun hanging out with you kids and answering (between bites) more of your questions. I even met a couple of aspiring writers in the group. Like I mentioned, you’re welcome to email me any questions you like. I answer all my email and I always enjoy hearing from shining stars like yourselves. And don’t forget to check out my new Facebook Page!!!

Thanks to Ms. Finnegan for inviting me and thanks for having me out, Starwood Montessor School!

I just spent a fun morning at Liberty Elementary in Flower Mound, TX. I had an exciting time at both assemblies and met tons of great kids. Everyone had insightful questions, too.

However, Since I got so many questions about my Fez Monkey collection, I started thinking about featuring a Fez Monkey each month. What do you think about that, Liberty Elementary? If you see that on my website soon, it’s all because of you!

Thanks to Vicki Toothman and the PTA for inviting me. And thanks for a great morning, Liberty Elementary! Just like your motto, you really are STARS (Stellar, Talented And Respectful Students)!

I just returned from visiting a cool school–Old Settlers Elementary in Flower Mound, TX! I gave a couple of presentations to all the students and then conducted a writing workshop for the 4th Grade.

I hope everyone had as good a time as I did! I especially hope that the 4th graders keep some of my writing tips in mind. Don’t forget those visualizations I gave you and use those tools to impress your teachers.

I know I couldn’t get to everybody’s questions so, as always, you’re more than welcome to email me any questions you like. It may take a while, but I always answer my email!

I’d like to thank Ms. Richter for inviting me and Mr. Draper and Ms. Little for all their help. I’d especially like to thank all the students of Old Settlers Elementary for a fun day!

I enjoyed a wonderful day at Renner Middle School in Plano, Texas! What a great group of kids. I even met an few aspiring writers! Good luck with your novel, Anna!

I hope you all enjoyed my presentation and don’t forget what I said about the dreaded… dum, dum, dum… REVISION PROCESS. I hope my tips help make it easier and I expect everyone to remember what I said about what makes a good story. No matter how many explosions, wizards, spaceships, or monsters, the most important part of a good story is how your main character is changed at the end.

Thanks to Mrs. Nowlin for inviting me and Mrs. Scott for all the help. And a big thanks to the PTA for the pizza and snacks! And thanks for having me as a guest, Renner Middle School!

My first Green Lantern Book is now available–Green Lantern: High-Tech Terror. I was a huge GL fan as a kid and got to rediscover the current series while researching this book. Sometimes I get to read comic books for a living! How cool is that?

This book is part of the DC Super Heroes series from Stone Arch Books and was written inside the current Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps comic series continuity–but created for a younger audience. So if there are any GL fans out there who want to introduce their young readers to the fearless Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern Corps, or even the Sinestro Corps, I recommend this book as well as any others in the series.

Okay, geek time is over.

Released today is the first of my Chuggington books, The Chugger Championship. For those unfamiliar with Chuggington, the show airs on Playhouse Disney, all the train characters are called “chuggers,” and they live and work in a town called Chuggington. This 8X8 picture book tells about the exciting tale of their big race around town and through the countryside!

With only a few sentences per page and bright colorful images pulled directly from the show, I’d recommend this for anyone just learning to read and/or fans of the show.

As they say in Chuggington, it’s train-tastic!

For my last author visit before the holidays, I zipped by The Montessori Academy of Arlington! I met a bunch of great kids, some very nice teachers, and got to see their cool outdoor classroom!

After a couple of shows and a nice lunch, I was invited to Mrs. Proctor’s E5 class for ice cream sundaes!  After that treat, I got another treat when each student read his or her special book they wrote. Mrs. Proctor has some very talented writers in her class.

I want to thank Mrs. Hryekewicz for inviting me and I’d like to give a super big thanks to all the students at The Montessori School of Arlington. I had a great day and I hope you all have a wonderful holiday break!

I just returned from Durham Elementary where (for the very first time) one of my shows was interrupted by a fire drill. I suppose it was bound to happen sooner or later. Luckily, it occurred during a good stopping point and… safety first, right?

After that brief intermission, I finished my show and even gave a writing workshop for the 3rd and 4th grades. I was also lucky enough to read some of their stories–what a nice surprise. It seems as if Durham Elementary is loaded with many talented writers!

Thanks to Mrs. Huddleston for inviting me and thanks to Mrs. Cooper and Mrs. Cobb for the use of their classrooms. And a special thanks goes to the great kids at Durham Elementary!  Keep those great stories coming!
