I had a great day at Mission West Elementary in Houston, Texas—home of the Wildcats! After my first presentation with the huge group of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders, I stopped by to visit with some of the morning pre-K kiddos. They had some great questions and many fine stories of their own.
Then it was lunch with all the library helpers: Alan, Andrea, Carlos, Ediel, Ephraim, Gisselle, Jasmin, Jermial, Kenneth, Melissa, and Whitney. I had a great time eating pizza with them and I’d like to thank Tyler for providing the cookies for desert. It was big fun hanging out with such great helpers AND readers!
I enjoyed a smaller presentation with some more 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders and then back in the cafeteria for another big show where I was presented with a very cool Wildcats T-shirt. Thanks, Mission West!
Thanks to Anne Arnold for inviting me (and for the tasty pizza). Thanks to Lisa Arnold and Mr. Calane for all the help setting up. And a big thanks to all the Mission West Wildcats for being such a great audience all around. I’d also like to thank Mrs. Petticrew’s class for taking the time to make me such wonderful thank you cards. It turns out that Mrs. Petticrew’s class has the same motto: “I Can Do That.” Don’t ever forget those four powerful words!

I spent the morning at Rosa Parks Elementary in Fresno, TX—home of the Rockets! I performed two shows and the 4th and 5th graders seemed very happy to hear that I had an author Facebook page. Many vowed to check it out and I told them (like I’m telling all the other schools) that I’m trying to see which school will give me the most “likes” this week.
After the short school visit, I headed over to Brazos Bend State Park to get in some hiking and to see the alligators. I only saw one but it was right next to the trail (lucky I didn’t step on him)! I also saw plenty of deer, jackrabbits, a turtle, a bullfrog, and a snake. You’ll have to visit my Facebook page, Rosa Parks Rockets, if you want to see some of the other photos I shot!

My last Houston area tour of the school year began with Brazos Bend Elementary–home of the Bullfrogs! I had a great time meeting all the kids and I enjoyed looking at the cool murals painted throughout the school. The ones in the library were especially amazing since they represented artwork from many classic books. Have you Bullfrogs read all those books? I bet most of you have!
I was in for an extra special treat when I was invited to join the pizza party with all the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders who completed the Bluebonnet Reading Challenge. It was a pleasure to meet you: Alvina, Anam, Ayeleen, Emma, Grace, Harrison, Iyan, Jeremy, Katie, Kylie, Lucas, Madison, Rannon, Rehman, Robert, Safa, Sierra, Syed, Tajes, Taleen, Torie, Varun, and William. Rehman even brought a copy of my book, Born to Race for me to sign.
Thanks to Mrs. Talamini for inviting me and for the great pizza. Thanks to Mr. Mendoza for helping me set up. And thanks to Mrs. Nicholie for taking pictures. And a big thanks to all the Brazos Bend Bullfrogs! I hope you enjoy the books I signed for you. You can check them out from your library.

I just returned from my second day in a row and my second year in a row at Centennial Elementary in Plano, TX! Because I was there for two days, I was able to relax, meet several of the Centennial students, and eventually perform for the entire school! I even got to have lunch with a bunch of 3rd graders who really like to read and write! Thanks for a fun lunch, Ashley, Amanda E., Amanda C., Alysa, Grant, Madison, Mateo, and Rojan!
When I got home, I had a bunch of the Centennial Comets “like” my official Facebook page and I even had a couple of email questions. Thanks for writing, Jack & Ryan!

I’d like to thank Mrs. Landon for the use of her library and Mr. Kamder for the technical help (I hope I put all the wires back correctly when I was done). And I’d like to give a big thanks to Mrs. Caskey and the Centennial PTA for inviting me back and letting me spend some time with some of the coolest comets around!

I just returned from performing at the Blue & Gold Banquet for Cub Scout Pack 730 in Dallas, Texas! Everyone seemed to have a great time and the the Cub Scouts (and their siblings) were full of energy and thoughtful questions. As an Eagle Scout, I truly enjoy these events and always encourage the young Scouts to stay in Scouting and to strive to make it all the way to Eagle themselves.
Thanks to Cubmaster, Andrew Zinn for inviting me and to Meyer Zinn for helping me set up. And a big thanks to all the Cub Scouts in Pack 730. Keep having fun and keep on hiking up the Scouting trail. It gets more exciting the higher you climb!

My second and last school this San Antonio trip was to visit Benavidez Elementary—home of the Patriots, just like my own elementary school in Brownsville, TX—the Russell Patriots! I had another fun time and these kids seemed to really enjoy my program (I’ve already had several Facebook questions!).
I was in for a special treat when I got to enjoy a pizza party with several of the top accelerated readers from the school. We had a good time and they asked some great questions. Keep reading Alejandro, Daniel, Isaac, Jackeline, Larissa, and Sergio!
Thanks to Mrs. McMeans for inviting me and to Mr. Jaime for all the help. And a big thanks to all the Benavidez Patriots for making my last day in San Antonio a memorable one!

This week I found myself in San Antonio for National Library Week! I visited the Alamo, hiked the Riverwalk, and visited Maverick Elementary, home of the Dragons! The 3rd, 4th, and 5th Graders took a break from studying to check out my presentations. We had a great time and Mrs. Ramon even drew some lucky winners to receive signed copies of my books!

Oh, I forgot to mention that many of the Dragons discovered my love of hats and wore all varieties of hats in my honor. Check out Squid-Man here! Don’t worry, Squid-Man! Your secret identity is safe with me. You can trust me to the MAX!
Thanks to Mrs. Ramon for inviting me and a big thanks to all the Maverick Dragons! Keep roaring and keep reading!

For my last day this week in Kansas City, I drove over to Gardner, Kansas to visit Madison Elementary–home of the Madison Bears! I enjoyed an exciting morning presentation with the Kindergardeners, 1st, and 2nd graders. Then I had an amazing show with the 3rd and 4th graders. The dragon roar seem to come naturally to all of them! Must be the bear thing, huh?
Thanks to Terri Dewey and the PTO for inviting me. Thanks to Mrs. Daniels in the front office for all the help. And a big thanks to all the Madison Elementary Bears. Keep roaring!

This morning I visited South Valley Middle School in Liberty, Missouri! The 6th and 7th graders were really interested in my Special Effects segment and… I think I see some future explosions with some of their names on it (only on a movie set, please). Way to go, Knights!
After both my shows, I recorded an interview segment for the South Valley Knightly Knews! See me below with the Knightly Knews team. I had a great time and only took three takes recording their brief promo – I’m so camera shy, you know.

Thanks to Robin Lewis having me out, for lunch, and for all the help. And a special thanks to the South Valley Knights!

This afternoon, I was lucky enough to present to Liberty Middle School, in Liberty Missouri! Other than being in front of such an energetic audience, I got to perform in Liberty’s community theater! It was a giant venue and I certainly got my exercise running around that huge stage. But, as you can see, I don’t let a large stage keep me from connecting with my audience. They were fantastic!
Thanks to Susan Martin for having me out and a big thanks to all the Liberty Middle School Explorers! Keep exploring great books!
